Erwan Charpy got the day going with a first-up win from Asatir, the son of Elusive Quality making his first start in since October 2013, and a first try on dirt.
The Watson action began when Maqaraat won the second race over the newly blinkered Double Bass.
In the third, Pat Dobbs went to the front on Jutland and held off the well-regarded Farrier, improving to a rating of 105 on the dirt.
First time starter Faulkner was a winner in his true first asking, but had succeeded in one of the dirt trials at Meydan prior to opening night. Taking that experience to his first race under rules, and it was all over as Faulkner drew away from a field that included some fairly experienced maidens. The final margin was 6.5 lengths.
Sholaan, racing off a mark of 108, bested 95-rated Kilt Rock in the first of two 1,000-metre sprints.
The finale was the second winner of the season for jovial Libyan owner Fathi Egziama as Sixty Minutes rallied from off the pace to win over Firstknight and Daar Rashid.
