One of two likely Japanese entrants in the Dubai World Cup, Victoire Pisa sat well off the pace and ran on to win the Nakayama Kinen (G2) over nine furlongs on turf, Sunday. Along with champion turf mare Buena Vista, Victoire Pisa is expected for the $10 million race over the Tapeta. Transcend, another Japanese runner, is hoping for a World Cup invitation, but is currently expected for the Godolphin Mile.

Victoire Pisa is a colt that’s certainly seems to be improving with every start. He ran 2 very respectable races in France in the Prix Niel and the Arc De Triomphe. Before finishing 3rd in the Japan Cup. Then upsetting Buena Vista in the Arima Kinen. Now he’s stepped up and taken the Nakayama Kinen as well. All that said, I personally believe Victoire Pisa would benefit much more from an entry into the Sheema Classic than into the Dubai World Cup. Mostly because I believe he’s at his best at 12+ furlongs. Cutting him back to 10f, coupled with a surface switch, it’s going to be hard for him to even make the frame in the DWC, IMO. Whereas, with Snow Fairy and Buena Vista both more likely to run in this year’s DWC, I think Victoire Pisa could really be a force in the Sheema. Certainly talented enough to run 1-1/2 on the turf with horses like Joshua Tree and Mastery if he was able to beat Buena Vista. JMO.
