He's a really physically fit looking specimen for sure. A big, bullish looking gray, and I've always had a soft spot for grays over the years. I didn't know a whole lot about Captain Obvious going into this race other than he's raced primarily in Singapore during his career, and that he's got an astounding lifetime record. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm reasonably sure that Fridays win at Meydan gives Captain Obvious 16 wins in 22 lifetime starts, now? You don't see many sprinters anywhere in the world with stats like that? I read where his trainer, Steven Burridge, said that the G1 Golden Shaheen on world cup night is the ultimate target for Captain Obvious if they can get into the field? He only beat Hitchens and Iver Bridge Lad by less than a length on Friday. But it didn't appear to me that Chavez was really asking him for his absolute best? He looked like a horse with a bit left in the locker passing the post, IMO. 16 wins in 22 starts could make Captain Obvious one of the best viable e/w options in the Golden Shaheen if you're looking to take on the short price sprinters like Black Caviar and Sepoy?
