Dubai Sheema Classic starter DENIM AND RUBY comes from out of the clouds, often settling well off the pace and hoping to fly home. While there is not much pace, on paper, in this year’s renewal, don’t think for a second that this relatively unexposed 4-year-old filly is underprepared for the opportunity. Denim And Ruby gets the checkmark for the most eyepopping performance of the day at Meydan, absolutely bolting home on the turf course in a sizzling piece of trackwork. Dubai World Cup hopeful MUKHADRAM was on the course at the same time, about 500 metres in front of Denim And Ruby, and could not match the performance of the Japanese filly.
Japan Cup Dirt winner BELSHAZZAR was out early again and trainer Kunihide Matsuda held court with a throng of his country’s media for about twenty minutes. Earlier, his Dubai World Cup charge was making a load of noise that seemed to disturb experienced horsemen.
Zabeel Mile winner MSHAWISH was getting out badly around the first turn, and on the wrong lead, in advance of his Dubai Duty Free try. JUST A WAY galloped more than a full circuit of the turf course and is a bit of a talking horse around the grounds right now.
HOKKO TARUMAE was out on the Tapeta for literally an hour, walking a lap, then cantering some, going to the gate and jumping-out several hundred metres from there. Fellow countrymate GENTILDONNA visited the gate as well, a day after a sparkling work on the grass course.
David Marnane’s Golden Shaheen outsider JAMESIE had a good blowout, while ELLEVAL did some work later in the morning. Hong Kong’s AMBER SKY galloped the Tapeta in his first local appearance, and first travel outside of the SAR. Ed Dunlop’s pair of JOSHUA TREE and RED CADEAUX continue to work on the Tapeta like happy horses.
Hong Kong’s AKEED MOFEED got out for the first time on Tuesday and galloped a lap of the all-weather without incident. He was joined shortly after 6:30 A.M. by Godolphin Mile shot Brightline, who looked more together on Tuesday, and Cirrus Des Aigles back for his third crack at the Dubai Sheema Classic.
A host of others were out making only neutral impressions, including SIR JACK LAYDAN, RUSSIAN SOUL, EASTERN RULES, GABRIAL, MEDCIEAN MAN, LOGOTYPE, TWILIGHT ECLIPSE, and more.
There were literally a few drops of rain at Meydan on Tuesday, and some more are expected on Wednesday and potentially Thursday morning. Advance forecast for Saturday remains 81F/27C with clear conditions – substantially cooler than in previous years. History suggests that is a fairly legitimate scenario breeding quicker times as opposed to warmer temperatures and slower times on the all-weather.
