Top American jockey Ramon Dominguez speaks of Gio Ponti, I Want Revenge for the 2011 Dubai World Cup meeting

Ramon Dominguez is back riding GIO PONTI for the Dubai World Cup and partners I WANT REVENGE in the Godolphin Mile. He graciously gives his insight on both, and hopes to go a bit better in the 2011 edition after a fourth in the $10 million race.

  1. Best Jockey ever! good luck Ramon

  2. Great champion that he is, and has been over the course of his career. I just really think it’s a stretch to think Gio Ponti can improve off of his 4th place finish in last year’s DWC. This year’s field is markedly tougher, and coming to Dubai with no prep whatsoever certainly isn’t doing him any favors. The bottom line with Gio Ponti, IMO, is that although he ran a really big B.C. Classic against Zenyatta on the pro-ride at Santa Anita. That race is a lifetime ago, and Gio Ponti is just a better horse on turf than he is on a synthetic surface. If Gio Ponti was a bit stronger over 1-1/2? I have an inkling that we’d be seeing him in the Sheema Classic instead of of the DWC. Not too sure that the Duty Free might not have been the most winnable slot for Gio Ponti to have gone to this year? JMO.
