Mackenzie’s Best – Race 7 – #6 THE GREY GATSBY

The Dubai Turf draws a rather weak field this year but for the shining light that is The Grey Gatsby.  In 2014, after a thrilling victory over the Epsom Derby winner Australia in the Irish Champion Stakes, The Grey Gatsby cemented his status as one of the best middle distance horses in the world. He was ranked third on Longines’ World’s Best Thoroughbred Rankings, tied with Australia and Cartier Horse of the Year Kingman. He enters off of a layoff, having not run since September, but trainer Kevin Ryan is confident in his horse and this has been his long-term goal. The Grey Gatsby outclasses the field in terms of accomplishments and the company he keeps, and despite the distance being about a furlong shy of his ideal, he should win impressively here.
