The 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) winner, Kinsale King, will get back on track Sunday, four months after being scratched the morning of the 2011 Dubai Golden Shaheen, eventually won by Rocket Man. Trained by Carl O’Callaghan, Kinsale King won his 2011 debut at Golden Gate Fields but was turned out soon after his World Cup morning issues. Smiling Tiger, Timeform’s top rated synthetic horse in the world, drew the rail in the race. Euroears, second behind Rocket Man in this year’s edition, makes his first start back as well for trainer Bob Baffert.

After a disappointing scratch the morning of the 2011 Dubai World Cup (G1), Kinsale King was sent back to America with hopes of getting back on track, but trainer Carl O’Callaghan sent his charge to the farm. Suggesting he needed some time to grow out of some ailments, the patient Irishman was hopeful they would have the son of Yankee Victor back for a summer campaign. Indeed, Kinsale King recorded his first meaningful bit of trackwork last weekend and is on point for a late July start in the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) at the seaside Del Mar oval. Kinsale King defeated Rocket Man in the 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) before Rocket Man came back to win that, plus the KrisFlyer International Sprint this year.

Rocket Man, JJ The Jet Plane, and Victoire Pisa found themselves amongst Timeform’s ratings of the top global thoroughbreds after their initial 2011 rankings were released last week. The three each landed victories during Dubai visits with starts at the 2011 Dubai World Cup meeting in March. Rocket Man went one better in the 2011 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), JJ The Jet Plane took a nailbiter in the Al Quoz Sprint (G2), and Victoire Pisa scored a smashing win in the world’s richest race, the Dubai World Cup (G1).

Rocket Man has bounced back with two wins since the Golden Shaheen spoils, while the other two have been sidelined with injuries, the worst of that going to South Africa’s JJ The Jet Plane. Amazingly, despite having never faced open company, 2,000 Guineas winner Frankel was tied with sprinting superstar Black Caviar for the top spot. The ratings were conclusive through 22 May. Click HERE for more.
