Espoir City rolls in February Stakes, Dubai World Cup possible

Espoir City, off his Japan Cup Dirt success from the fall, rolled on with a win in the February Stakes (G1) at Tokyo, setting up a possible encounter in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1). Casino Drive continues to impress

I have been struck by the chiseled physique of CASINO DRIVE as his preparations continue for the Dubai World Cup. His stride has been impressive, he’s kept a straight path through the lane and just generally worked like a star the last two mornings. I spoke with Japanese media interests that interviewed his exercise rider this morning, who confirmed that the February Stakes (G1) second place finisher has felt strong. Success Brocken nips Casino Drive in February Stakes

Before a crowd of more than 70,000, youth ruled in Sunday’s February Stakes from Tokyo Racecourse as Success Brocken defeated Casino Drive by a head with Kane Hekili just a neck back in third. The final time for 1600 meters (1 mile) was a new stakes record of 1:34.6. Vermilion finished sixth.

With a rather light contingent of American dirt horses expected to contest the $6,000,000 Dubai World Cup, this race (and country, for that matter) could produce quite a few challengers for racing’s richest prize.
