Prayer For Relief could bring Baffert back to Dubai World Cup

Prayer For Relief, a Bob Baffert-trained 3-year-old that has relatively flown under the radar, became American racing’s newest millionaire when suffering his first defeat of 2011 while a troubled third in Sunday’s Oklahoma Derby. After the race, Baffert has said that he might head towards the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) or potentially even wait and freshen the son of Jump Start for the 2012 Dubai World Cup (G1). Baffert has won the race twice, annexing editions with Silver Charm and Captain Steve. After winning a conditions event at Hollywood Park to start the year, Prayer For Relief won three consecutive stakes events, including the Iowa Derby (G3), West Virginia Derby (G2), and Super Derby (G2). Kinsale King, Euroears return in Bing Crosby at Del Mar

The 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) winner, Kinsale King, will get back on track Sunday, four months after being scratched the morning of the 2011 Dubai Golden Shaheen, eventually won by Rocket Man. Trained by Carl O’Callaghan, Kinsale King won his 2011 debut at Golden Gate Fields but was turned out soon after his World Cup morning issues. Smiling Tiger, Timeform’s top rated synthetic horse in the world, drew the rail in the race. Euroears, second behind Rocket Man in this year’s edition, makes his first start back as well for trainer Bob Baffert.

Speed will come from Euroears in Golden Shaheen

Incredible as it may seem, Bob Baffert trainee Euroears had his last bit of trackwork on Monday and worked six furlongs in 1:09.80, faster than any six-furlong race contested in the history of Meydan’s Tapeta. Granted, the surfaces are completely different, with Santa Anita’s dirt racing faster than most any surface in the world right now, but it should at least be recognized that this was not an insignificant piece of work. Dubai officials often suggest that horses get some decent work before traveling, but one well-respected, long-time Dubai racing observer believes that the flight should be treated as a workout of its own. If that is the case, and the flight really does take as much out of a horse as a good bit of work, then Euroears may have gone a bit too fast for his own good.

Game On Dude out of Dubai World Cup

Late Monday in California, connections of Game On Dude, recent winner of the Santa Anita Handicap, reported the colt has a hoof abscess that will keep him from the race, discovered in the hours before the long trip. Whether or not this opens the door for any other American runners to get into the field, or be promoted from another race, has yet to be seen. Michele MacDonald has more from Bloodhorse.

Richard’s Kid bypassing Breeders’ Cup, back to Dubai

Trainer Bob Baffert told the Daily Racing Form that Goodwood (G1) and Pacific Classic (G1) winner Richard’s Kid will skip the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and return to Dubai to begin preparations for the 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival and Dubai World Cup. Richard’s Kid is owned by Sheikh Rashid’s Zabeel Racing International.

Richard’s Kid again in Pacific Classic

He was one of those Dubai World Cup groupies, an indiscernable pack of horses behind the top four finishers at the 2010 Dubai World Cup, beaten just about three lengths. Once again, Richard’s Kid picked up the Pacific Classic (G1), defeating fellow World Cup also-ran Crowded House by three-quarters of a length in the 10-furlong race at Del Mar. Richard’s Kid is owned by Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum’s Zabeel Racing International and trained by multiple World Cup winner Bob Baffert.

Baffert likely back to Dubai World Cup as Richard’s Kid surges in final strides for San Antonio win

A recent private purchase by Dubai-based Zabeel Racing International, Bob Baffert trainee Richard’s Kid surged up the rail to take the San Antonio at Santa Anita by a neck over longshot Dakota Phone. Before today’s race, Baffert indicated that the son of Lemon Drop Kid was pointed for the Dubai World Cup (G1) and today’s heart-pounding win likely affirmed those plans. Last turning for home, Richard’s Kid won for the seventh time in his career from 22 starts, with a career highlight victory in the 2009 Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar.

Baffert trained Dubai World Cup winners Silver Charm and Captain Steve and was second with Indian Blessing in the 2009 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1).

Sheikh Rashid’s Zabeel Racing purchases Richard’s Kid

Having been pointed to the Dubai World Cup (G1) by trainer Bob Baffert since a sixth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), 2009 Pacific Classic (G1) winner Richard’s Kid was privately purchased by Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum’s Zabeel Racing International. The story, reported today by the Daily Racing Form, indicates that Richard’s Kid will remain with Baffert. Zabeel also purchased American-based runner Ready’s Echo, second in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), with an eye on the Godolphin Mile (G2).

Richard’s Kid prepping once before 2010 Dubai World Cup

The winner of the 2009 Pacific Classic (G1), Bob Baffert trainee Richard’s Kid will prep once in advance of an expected start in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Baffert told the Daily Racing Form that a prep in Saturday’s San Pasqual (G2) at Santa Anita would be too short for Richard’s Kid, a son of Lemon Drop Kid. The San Antonio, on 7 February, offers a better prep, according to Baffert, who won the Dubai World Cup with Silver Charm and Captain Steve.
