Redwood possible for Saint-Cloud on Sunday

Redwood, second to the popular Rewilding in the 2011 Dubai Sheema Classic (G1), is a possible starter in Sunday’s Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (G1) on Sunday, reported trainer Barry Hills.  The form from the Dubai Sheema Classic has come back strong following Rewilding’s powerful stretch drive to inch past the highly-regarded So You Think in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes (G1).  The Racing Post has more.

  1. Mark my word’s, this will be Redwood’s year to jump up and win a couple of major G1′s over 12f. Redwood has just continued to improve as he’s gotten older with each and every race. I think he really came into his own last year at Woodbine. When he won the G1 Northern Dancer Stakes. Then ran 3rd, very narrowly beaten by Joshua Tree and Mores Wells in the G1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes. I think it was the competition that Redwood faced in both of those G1′s at Woodbine that put him spot on for that huge 2nd place run in this year’s Sheema Classic. If Khalid Abdullah is smart, he’ll leave Workforce at home this time, and send Redwood to America to win the Breeders Cup Turf for him. Redwood could’ve easily beaten last year’s Breeders Cup Turf field, IMO.

  2. Would’ve liked to have seen Redwood run in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud. But that said, I’m not sure he would’ve beaten the brilliant Aga Khan filly, Sarafina. She’s really been firing right out the gate this year. She’s looked awfully good in all 3 starts. Having now won the Prix Corrida and Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud, back to back. After being beaten by a length by Planteur in the Prix Ganay on her seasonal debut. With her win at Saint-Cloud, Sarafina also secured an automatic birth into this year’s Breeders Cup Turf at Churchill Downs. The Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud was one of the new races put up the Breeders Cup panel this year as being a “win and your in” race for the Breeders Cup Turf.
