It's really such a shame that Leahurst suffered an injury during the Carnival. This colt came to Dubai, very much like Gitano Hernando, having his only lifetime defeats coming on turf. But like Gitano Hernando, came in having never been defeated on any synthetic surface track that he had ever raced over. Leahurst, in his two races at Meydan, really let lose with two of the most explosive performances over the Tapeta at Meydan of the whole Carnival,IMO. As well as this colt handles synthetic surfaces, and barring the fact that he suffered an injury in Dubai, I would have been looking to take a shot at the Dubai World Cup with Leahurst instead of the Golden Shaheen. Gitano Hernando could have, and should have finished must better than he ultimately did in the Dubai World Cup. Granted, he had a tough post position draw coming out of gate #2, but Allybar managed to get quickly into the clear out of gate #1. Fallon waited far too late in the race to move with Gitano Hernando. Two or three different times during the race, he could have split Mastery and Allybar and gotten Gitano Hernando into the clear. By the time Gitano Hernando did get into the clear, Gloria De Campeao, Lizard's Desire, and Allybar were already off and gone. My point is that, IMO, Leahurst has that same kind of quickness on synthetics. He really adapted very well to the Tapeta, and ran two huge efforts. If ever there had been a colt that should have taken his shot, had he not been injured, at the Dubai World Cup, Leahurst is that colt. TJMO.
