Mourilyan, a 2008 winner at the Dubai International Racing Carnival and placed in the 2009 festivities, won the Windflower March Stakes (Listed) at Goodwood on Saturday. Held up at the back of a seven-horse field, Ryan Moore’s mount found plenty of traffic in the stretch but showed a strong turn of foot to burst away for his first win since his Carnival score.
Traffic Guard, winless since July 2007, put in a devastating effort in the Totequadpot August Stakes (Listed), defeating Warringah by some eight lengths over the Windsor going. A race later, Campanologist defeated 2009 Carnival winner Bankable in the Totepool Winter Hill Stakes (G3).
Vineyard Haven, a disappointment when in Dubai this winter, was first past the post in the King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, his first start since his Dubai debacle. That, however, would not stand as the stewards ruled the son of Lido Palace should be disqualified from the winners spot after interfering with the second home, Capt. Candyman Can. Regardless, the effort was incredibly gutsy off the shelf and should indicate growth for the lightly raced sophomore.
