The 2008 Dubai Kahayla Classic (G1) winner, sidelined since last fall with a bone chip, returned to racing on Sunday in the 70,000 AED National Day Cup prep for purebred Arabians and did not disappoint, defeating Shadiyda by 1.5 lengths over eight furlongs at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club. Trainer Eric Lemartinel prepared both Arabians and also managed a double on the card.

In the thoroughbred feature, also a prep for the National Day Cup, Fathayer edged top-rated Eddie Jock for Royston Ffrench and trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe. Racing returns to the UAE on Friday with an expected six race meeting at Jebel Ali.
