Mahbooba dominates Al Rashidiya Trial in Carnival opener

The winner of the UAE Oaks (Listed) from 2011, Mahbooba came back in fine fettle, winning over 1,800 metres in the Al Rashidiya Trial, defeating a quality field that included multiple Carnival winner Derbaas.  Godolphin’s Laajooj just nipped Derbaas for second in the race, and Sea Lord was fourth.  Overall, the first night of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival went the way of the home team, with Godolphin-owned runners taking four of the seven races, while training a fifth.

  1. Good to see Mahbooba finally starting to live up that big reputation that she brought with her to Dubai for last year’s Carnival. She was competitive, sure enough last year. But I was really surprised when stablemate, Reem, beat her right out of the gate in the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial. Although Reem did run a couple of other mighty races herself, beating a mostly all male field to win the Al Bastakiya, and making her older stablemate, River Jetez, earn every ounce of a Balanchine win. Not to mention she ran 2nd to Mahbooba in the UAE 1000 Guineas.
