Those on the outside looking into Tuesday’s Emirates Melbourne Cup (G1) can breathe a bit easier knowing the Godolphin’s Kirklees and local hope Efficent will not partake in the two mile race. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor ruled Kirklees out after lackluster trackwork on Saturday. Godolphin will still hold an entrant in the race that stops a continent when Crime Scene is partnered with Kerrin McEvoy.
Bin Suroor reported that Kirklees will now be sent to train up to the Dubai International Racing Carnival, which begins January 28 at Meydan. Crime Scene was a winner in a turf handicap on the first night of the 2009 DIRC.
