The opening meeting of the 2013 UAE racing did not feature the highest quality, but it did enjoy some significant winners.
Frobisher (pictured below), a debuting son of Street Cry out of the Cape Cross mare Crossover, was slow from the stalls but it was none to matter, running away from the maidens over a distance surely too short for his pedigree. A handy winner for Satish Seemar. ERA handicapper Melvin Day assigned the older first-timer a rating of 87 off the win.
Momaris devastated six handicap runners in the finale, winning by more than five lengths. By Dubai Destination out of the Darshaan mare, Anaamil, the win was the first in the UAE for English apprentice Thomas Brown.
The feature of the afternoon saw Muarrab (pictured below) hand his rivals a tidy defeat, winning the 1,000-metre handicap by 4 1/2 lengths as the co-low-weight in the field. Bred in the UK by Stratford Place Stud, the son of Oasis Dream earned his second win at Jebel Ali in his last three starts.
