Godolphin announced Sunday that James Doyle and William Buick have been retained as contract riders for the global operation, with Buick riding first call for Charlie Appleby and Doyle as first call for Saeed bin Suroor. The main commitment is to begin with the 2015 Dubai World Cup Carnival, which starts January 8 at Meydan. Both riders have had success at the Dubai World Cup meeting, with Buick partnering Dar Re Mi to win the Dubai Sheema Classic in 2010, while Doyle rode Cityscape to a Dubai Duty Free tally in 2012.
While Mickael Barzalona remains contracted to the operation in France, Silvestre De Sousa’s contract was not continued, a press release noted. The two jockeys have provided Godolphin with their last two wins in the Dubai World Cup, with De Sousa’s most recent, winning on African Story in 2014.
“This is a great arrangement,” said Saeed bin Suroor. “I have already had success with both James and William. James has ridden group horses for me this year and has proved himself on a world stage and I will also have access to William which is terrific.”
Charlie Appleby added: “I honestly could not be happier because I will now be able to use two of the best jockeys in the world. William has global experience at the highest level and worked very closely with me this season. We have already had Group One success with Charming Thought in the Middle Park Stakes and having James to call on as well is a massive bonus.”
