DubaiRaceNight.com Breeders’ Cup Selections (Friday)

Breeders’ Cup Marathon
1st – #6 Mastery
2nd – #5 Father Time
3rd – #9 Man Of Iron

MARATHON: This race seems completely ignored by the American contingent and ripe for more European success.  I find both Mastery and Father Time equally usable in the top spot, both towering above this field on class.  Frankie Dettori should have Mastery prominent in a race lacking early pace.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
1st – #7 House of Grace
2nd – #3 Smart Seattle
3rd – #9 Hatheer

JUVENILE FILLIES TURF: There should be no lack of early pace in this event and I see on of the mid-pack closers as the filly most likely to get the job done.  Debuting at Saratoga, House of Grace was overwhelmingly impressive going two turns and was flattered later by that result.  Winning the Jessamine last time, the margin was tighter but should have her game for another top mark here.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies
1st – #12 Biofuel
2nd - #10 Negligee
3rd - #3 Blind Luck

JUVENILE FILLES: You will be hard-pressed to find a filly more impressive in her last race than Biofuel.  She inhaled the field in her last start at Woodbine and just ran away with the Mazarine Stakes, doing most of the running in hand.  She bounced back from that with two blazing workouts over the all-weather surface there and the wide barrier draw should allow her to settle towards the rear and make a big run.  The price will be juicy.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf
1st – #3 Rutherienne
2nd – #6 Midday
3rd – #4 Magical Fantasy

FILLY & MARE TURF: Is it possible that Rutherienne, after 22 lifetime starts, has finally been placed at her best distance.  This is a mare bred to get more ground and will finally be given the chance.  20 placings from 22 jumps, she is always in the mix and gets a Breeders’ Cup try in 2009.  I’m thinking Friday could be the day of a big breakthrough.  Her most recent company has not been the best, but that last race at Belmont was gutsy and clearly short of her best distance.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
1st – #9 Ventura
2nd – #7 Informed Decision
3rd – #2 Sara Louise

FILLY & MARE SPRINT: Easy to pick Ventura here considering her blow-away performance from last year, winning this event by four lengths.  Truthfully, she didn’t have a competitor like Informed Decision, who is five-for-six over the seven furlong trip and six-for-six on synthetic surfaces.  I won’t feel comfortable without using both of them, but give a narrow edge to the defending champion who was brilliant in her win over the boys in the Woodbine Mile (G1) last time.

Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic
1st – #7 Music Note
2nd – #1 Careless Jewel
3rd – #6 Cocoa Beach

LADIES CLASSIC: Without Zenyatta, this race gets imminently more interesting, even with the smaller field.  Music Note has been golden in her last two starts, earning huge speed figures and just showing visions of her great previous form.  I believe she was the victim of a poor ride in this race last year and you cannot argue with what Maragh has done aboard her recently.  She will have to come catch Careless Jewel, who will likely get very courageous on the front end and could just keep going.

Later on Thursday – full selections for Saturday’s card
