  1. I’m assuming that it’s the Al Rashidiya Trial that’s becoming the Singspiel Stakes in 2014 and being upgraded from a conditions race to a listed race, since Sharestan is the horse listed as the winner of the race in 2013 and the Al Rashidiya Trial was the only race that Sharestan won at Meydan in 2013. Is my assumption correct on this?

  2. There’s no horse returning to Dubai this year who’s arrival I anxiously await more than that of Soft Falling Rain. Funny thing about this horse is when trainer Mike De Kock first got him from Sheikh Hamdan he had the horse pegged as a sprinter and was skeptical about his chances of ever staying a mile. You need only watch the replay of his win in the G2 Godolphin Mile at Meydan or the G2 Nayef Joel Stakes at Newmarket to see that he gets a mile thoroughly and has become very effective racing on both turf & synthetic surfaces. Eventually, I think time will prove the ground went completely against Soft Falling Rain at Ascot in the G1 QE II Stakes and that race will serve as nothing more than a throw out race for him. If I had an inkling Soft Falling Rain would stay 10f I’d point him as hard at the G1 Dubai World Cup as I could, but I doubt you’d ever convince Mike De Kock he’d stay 10f. That being said, in the Godolphin Mile he ran 9 or 9-1/2f if he ran a foot having to travel to 5 or 6 wide the entire race and still showed the gear changes to run down Haatheq. With that in mind, I’m hopeful Mike De Kock might consider at least going after the G1 Dubai Duty Free at 9f in 2014 instead of pointing at the G2 Godolphin Mile again. I personally believe 9f is well within Soft Falling Rain’s scope, and I think there’s little doubt he has the class to win a race like the G1 Dubai Duty Free, but TJMO.
