The stewards’ report from Friday’s card at Nad al Sheba can help explain the disappointing effort of Devotee in the featured classic UAE 1000 Guineas. Backed at 1-2 in the international commingled pool, this daughter of Elusive Quality was strongly believed to be one of the better fillies in the Godolphin crop. After breaking her maiden at Saratoga, she finished third in the Darley Alcibiades (G1) at Keeneland until returning on Friday. Devotee checked in last, officially, not finishing the race.
Per the report: “When questioned regarding the performance of DEVOTEE (USA), Jockey L Dettori could offer no excuses for the poor run. A post race veterinary examination of DEVOTEE (USA) revealed the filly to have suffered a cardiac arrhythmia.”
