As soon as Godolphin signed Mickail Barzalona and Silvestre De Sousa to start riding exclusively for Godolphin, the higher up's at the stable, I.E., Sheikh Mohammed and Simon Crisford, started treating Frankie Dettori like the fat girl at the dance. How wrong was that to treat the man who's basically defined Godolphin's operation from a jockey standpoint for 18 years that way? That sad part of this story is that Godolphin have managed to let a man who's still one of the best and most clutch big $ riders in the sport get away. Barzalona and De Sousa are both certainly talented young jockey's with a bright future ahead of them. But for Sheikh Mohammed and Simon Crisford to believe they had anyone better that Frankie Dettori to ride for the stable in a major G1 stakes race was a big mistake on their part, IMO. I think it's likely that within the next 2 or 3 seasons Frankie Dettori may start to consider retirement anyway? Until he does, I'd like to see Coolmore snatch him up as their #1 stable jockey for a couple of seasons. They never did settle the matter of who their #1 stable jockey would be after Johnny Murtagh left, although young Joseph O'Brien sort of gradually eased his way into the role. But size and weight are about to catch up with Joseph O'Brien, so who better than Frankie Dettori to put on Coolmore's top horses for the next 2 or 3 seasons? Aidan O'Brien sure didn't hesitate in snatching Dettori up to pilot Camelot in this year's Arc De Triomphe.
