Winners from each of the last two Dubai International Racing Carnivals, Crime Scene and Mourilyan were second and third behind gallant winner Shocking in the 2009 Emirates Melbourne Cup (G1) on Tuesday at Flemington. Shocking raced wide throughout the 3,200 meters while Mourilyan managed to flash home from deep in the 23-horse field to claim third.
Crime Scene raced sixth for the majority of the race, settling several lengths off longshot leader Warringah, snapping the lead for almost 200 meters in the long home straight. A dawdling early pace helped Crime Scene stay on but the ride from Mourilyan was surely second best despite his third finishing. Basaltico, another DIRC graduate, was unplaced.
