Godolphin’s Crime Scene, a winner on the opening night of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival, hopes to get a solid prep while DIRC alum Basaltico hopes to secure a spot in the upcoming Emirates Melbourne Cup with a strong performances, if not a win, in today’s Geelong Cup (G3). Basaltico, trained by Luca Cumani, now carries the Melbourne hopes for the well-traveled trainer after his Cima De Triomphe flopped in the Caulfield Cup (G1) last week. As of now, Basaltico sits outside the top 24, the number of entrants available for Australia’s greatest race.
Crime Scene was a strong second, just a half-length behind Eastern Anthem in a handicap at Nad Al Sheba before that one went on to win the Dubai Sheema Classic.
