Crime Scene a longshot villain at Newbury; Fryvolous back on Sunday in all-Arabians card

Dubai International Racing Carnival veteran Crime Scene was a 25-1 winner when making his second start following a winter at Nad Al Sheba when landing Saturday’s Shadwell Beech House Stud Stakes (Listed) at Newbury.  Clearly overlooked in the wagering, Crime Scene returned to the site his 2007 St. Simon Stakes (G3) victory and made all the running over the ten furlongs.

A 6-year-old gelding by Royal Applause, this Godolphin charge was on near even terms in the handicap ratings with much shorter-priced choices Traffic Guard (also a Carnival veteran) and Blue Monday.  Under Ahmed Ajtebi, Crime Scene defeated his stablemate Covert Ambition by a length.

Crime Scene was a winner on the first night of the 2009 Carnival for trainer Mubarak bin Shafya and earned a major boost to his form guide when second in a 12-furlong handicap in February, a half-length behind eventual Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) king Eastern Anthem.

Dubai Kahayla Classic (G1) winner Fryvolous is back in action on Sunday in an all-Arabian card at Newbury as the Dubai Summer Festival continues.  Rod Simpson’s star will meet a field of 13 others which includes Carnival placer Nashwan Al Khalidiah in the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (G1).
