Twelve months ago, Quijano (pictured below) broke a losing streak in the Gran Premio di Milano (G1). The world traveling German-bred and trained son of Actatenango was victorious once again in the 2009 edition, holding off Godolphin’s Age of Reason for a one-length victory. Trained by Peter Schiergen and partnered with Andrasch Starke once again, Quijano accelerated from off-the-pace to score in his first start since a sixth place finish in the 2009 Dubai Sheema Classic.
Age of Reason was making his first start since a win in the 2009 Qatar International Cup, a race that represented the royal blue’s first win on that peninsula. Ridden by Martin Dwyer, Age of Reason narrowly held last year’s Gran Premio di Milano second, Voila Ici, at bay for the main runner-up spot. Age of Reason was victorious in his second Dubai International Racing Carnival start of 2009, landing the Dubal Potline Handicap over 2400 meters, defeating Young Mick by five lengths in a field of twelve.
