Buena Vista wins in first start following second in Dubai Sheema Classic, Red Desire fourth

Just minutes before the first race of the day here at Kranji, the Japanese media huddled around a variety of computers to watch the Victoria Mile (G1) from Tokyo Racecourse.  Buena Vista, just less than a length behind Dar Re Mi in the 2010 Dubai Sheema Classic, was heavily backed along with 2010 Maktoum Challenge Round 3 winner Red Desire.  Over the 1,600 meters trip, Buena Vista stretched to lead just in the final strides over longshot Hikaru Amaranthus.  Red Desire was a length behind in fourth, behind roughie Nishino Blue Moon.

The win is the seventh in 13 lifetime starts for Buena Vista, a daughter of Special Week.  Trained by Hiroyoshi Matsuda and ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama, the Victoria Mile win pushed her career earnings to almost $8,000,000.
