Beethoven to play Carnival, World Cup

No – not that Beethoven, but the former Ballydoyle charge privately purchased by Qatari interests and two-for-two in that country, is due to make an appearance at the Carnival and Dubai World Cup meeting.  Jason Ford of the Racing Post has more.

  1. I like Beethoven. He almost always gives you a really honest effort every time he’s on the racetrack. That said, baring his win as a 2yr.old in the 09′ Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. Beethoven’s just never gone on to prove that he’s a genuine G1 level horse in his 3yr.old season. He’s run well in some G1 races. But there’s always managed to be more than one horse that’s much better him in every major G1 race that he’s ever competed in. In Europe and when he raced in the Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin. I know he’s now under new ownership and has a different trainer. I’m also aware that he’s recently won the Qatar Derby and the Heir Apparent Trophy at Dohar. But frankly speaking. The level of competition he faced in those races is nothing like he’s going to run into at Meydan. Most especially the Dubai World Cup. I wish Beethoven well. But I just don’t see him being the caliber of horse that’s good enough to win the Dubai World Cup. JMO.
