The 2013 Dubai World Cup was confirmed for 30 March after an announcement today from the Emirates Racing Authority. The 18th running of the world’s richest race will once again be sponsored by Emirates Airline, topping 46 days of racing are scheduled for the 2012-2013 season.
The season begins with the first of 11 Friday meetings at Jebel Ali on 2 November and 15 Sunday meetings at Abu Dhabi, commencing 4 November. Racing at the flagship Meydan Racecourse will occur over 20 days, with 10 meetings planned for the 2013 Dubai World Cup Carnival in advance of the Dubai World Cup. The 2013 Carnival kicks-off on 10 January and will run for eight consecutive Thursdays, before Saturday meetings on 2 March and 9 March, the latter which will be the main local prep day for the Dubai World Cup, Super Saturday.
The overall number of scheduled race days in the UAE is a reduction from the 2011-2012 season, when 52 days of racing were slated. Only 51 meetings were conducted after power issues at Sharjah led to a November meeting there being abandoned. After a year in which Sharjah conducted a recent high of five days of racing, no meetings are scheduled there in the upcoming season. Field sizes over some races in the UAE seemed to trail behind previous seasons, especially at Jebel Ali, which likely accounts for some of the elimination in racing dates at Sharjah.
All meetings at Meydan are scheduled to begin at 6:30 P.M., with the exception of the Super Saturday and Dubai World Cup programmes, where first post will be 4:30 P.M. The full schedule is below, separated by racecourse. As usual, DubaiRaceNight.com will tip all the meetings, along with providing full written analysis of the racing at Meydan.
